Cooperative Research proposal to be funded by NOAA.   April 9, 2012 — Our proposal to develop and test a hybrid method of sampling reef fishes that combines aspects of fishery-dependent and fishery-independent methods has been recommended for funding by the Southeast Regional Office.  This project will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Ted Switzer and Mr. Bob McMichael from FWC’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and with commercial fishing industry participants from the Gulf of Mexico.

 

Dinorah awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship!  March 30, 2012 — We received the great news that Dinorah Chacin (MS student) will receive the highly competive NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for her research on seascape level influences on behavior and demographics of seagrass fishes.

Ori’s talk wins second place.  March 2, 2012 — Ori Tzadik (PhD student) gave a talk at the 30th Annual College of Marine Science Graduate Student Research Symposium that was voted second best among 30 excellent presentations.  Ori discussed preliminary results and his research plans for his dissertation.

 

Julie receives runner-up at Florida AFS Annual Meeting.  February 23, 2012. — Our newest lab member, Julie Vecchio (PhD student), presented a poster at the Annual Meeting of the Florida Chapter of the American Fisheries Society that was awarded runner-up.  Her poster described some preliminary results and future plans for her doctoral research.

 

Brittany earns a Fish Florida Scholarship.  Dec 16, 2011 — Incoming MS student, Brittany Hall, will receive a Fish Florida Scholarship.  The scholarship program is hosted by Florida Sea Grant and will provide support to Brittany as she gets started on her research.
