Lauren graduated with her PhD in marine microbiology in 2005. She is currently continuing her investigations of lysogeny in marine Synechococcus as a post-doc. Her research includes sequencing of induced cyanophages from cultured isolates and environmental samples, analysis of environmentally relevant cues of Synechococcus prophage induction, investigation of lysogenic gene expression in the marine environment over a seasonal cycle and investigation of Gene Transfer Agents of marine α-proteobacteria. Lauren has successfully completed both an EPA STAR Fellowship grant and a NOAA grant to develop a Marine Prophage Induction Assay for detection of environmental mutagens.
