Camp dates July 5 – July 22, 2021
2021 Camper applications are closed.
Due to the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, camp dates are subject to change or the camp may be moved to a virtual format. We are cautiously optimistic that we will have an in-person camp this summer.
Thank you for your continued patience and support as we listen to our public health officials and organizational partners, and determine the best way to continue serving people during this time. Updates on OCG’s evolving position on COVID-19 will be communicated through email and social media.
OCG is an annual 3-week summer ocean science exploration program for young women in Pinellas County, hosted by the College of Marine Science at the University of South Florida. Our mission is to inspire and motivate young women entering high school to consider career opportunities in the sciences. OCG provides hands-on, real-world experiences in both laboratory and field environments. Professors, research scientists, and graduate students at USF provide scientific mentoring, while alumni campers serve as peer mentors to “new” campers while enhancing their own communication and leadership skills. Under the interdisciplinary umbrella of oceanography, participants are directly involved in disciplines in which women and minorities are most often underrepresented: chemistry, geology, physics, engineering and mathematics.
This year’s OCG 2021 marks 30 years since the camp’s initiation in 1991. Come along for the ride!
